Recovery

Following an injury, initially we can offer the right advice for if you should immobilise the area or when is the best time to get mobile. Manual therapy and Acupuncture can be a great tool to facilitate healing, improve pain and movement. We can advise you on the best exercises whether you have had an acute injury, surgery or a long-standing problem to get you back to your work or sporting goals.

Maintenance

“Use it or lose it.” All our physios are experienced in exercise prescription. We offer 1:1 physio or Pilates to set you up with an individualised exercise program in the clinic and at home. Physiotherapy and exercise has been proven to help manage chronic conditions such as lower back pain and arthritis, which can help to delay or prevent the need for surgery in some cases. Pilates classes are a good way to maintain and improve whole body stability, strength, flexibility and control.

Prevention and Performance

Whether your goals are sport or work orientated, we are passionate about helping you to achieve them. You may have experienced frustration with injuries repeating themselves over the years, or you may just feel as though your performance could be improved and there is something holding you back. Often through sports or repetitive movements, our bodies can develop muscle imbalances leading to pain or injury. We can offer a biomechanical assessment to help you to get your body moving in the most efficient way for injury prevention or optimal performance.

ACUPUNCTURE
AND DRY NEEDLING

What do we offer?

Western Medical Acupuncture based on western concepts of anatomy, physiology, and pain modulation.

Dry needling rapid short-term needling to tender trigger points in muscles to improve or restore function.

HOW CAN IT HELP YOU?

  • Pain reduction
  • Promotion of healing
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Muscle activation

Acupuncture is provided in conjunction with, and to complement conventional physiotherapy treatment. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into the body at specific points for healing and general well-being. It is drug free and has very few side effects depending on your medical history which will be considered before treatment is undertaken.

What to expect?

  • Sterile disposable needles are used at specific points and with Acupuncture will be left in for a period of time and may be stimulated during the treatment.
  • Sometimes the needles are inserted far away from the site of injury, and you may feel an aching sensation with insertion and or stimulation.
  • Dry needling is a stronger type of treatment but is shorter duration and you may experience some post-treatment soreness for up to 24 hours.

What conditions can be treated with Acupuncture and Dry needling?

  • Acute and chronic injuries
  • Back and neck pain
  • Muscle and joint problems
  • Nerve pain
  • Arthritis
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Sports injuries
  • Pre and post-natal pain

Pilates

Pilates is a great form of exercise as well as a rehabilitation tool.

We use mat and equipment based exercises to strengthen and lengthen the muscles in your body to improve posture and coordination.

When your body is aligned well, you move most efficiently and can perform to your full potential. Pilates can be used clinically to help reduce pain and improve stability following an injury or having a baby, help you learn about your body, or improve control, flexibility and balance to enhance performance.

We have a fully equipped Pilates studio with mats and small props, reformer, trapeze table, ladder barrel, Pilates chair and tower.

BPPV

The vestibular system is involved in relaying information about head movements and position to the brain which then processes this information along with signals from the rest of your body.

The vestibular system is very sensitive and when things go wrong you may experience symptoms such as:

  • Dizziness – light headedness, spaced out feeling
  • Vertigo – a sense of movement when there isn’t any reason for it, eg spinning or feeling as thought you are on a boat
  • Unsteadiness, reduced balance
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog

At Fusion we can help to treat vestibular conditions affecting the peripheral vestibular system (the inner ear) which may include:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional vertigo (BPPV)
  • Unilateral or bilateral vestibular dysfunction- due to damage to one or both ears following a virus.

For anything that may not fit into these categories we can assess and determine an appropriate referral pathway.

You may self-refer or be referred from your GP, neurologist, ENT specialists, other physiotherapists or any allied or community health professional.
